Your chin augmentation procedure
Your surgery will be performed using either local or general anesthesia as recommended by your doctor.
Your incision will be placed either inside your mouth where it is completely concealed or under your chin. Your implant will be placed over the bony structure of your chin and secured by the surrounding tissues. After implantation, your surgeon will close your incisions using tiny sutures. If your incision is inside your mouth, there will be no visible scarring. If your incision was made under your chin, scarring is typically imperceptible. Chin augmentation surgery typically takes about an hour.
Your recovery
Following your surgery, your doctor may apply a chin strap dressing to further secure your implant in its proper position. That dressing will be removed in one to three days.
Recovery can take about a week. Expect some swelling, bruising, and soreness. Pain medication may be prescribed when appropriate. Your speech and swallowing may be limited, so a soft food and liquid diet will be necessary for the first day or two of recovery.
Chin Augmentation Results
Post-surgical swelling can initially distort your results. But as the swelling subsides, you will see improved chin shape, size, and contour. Most patients love their new profiles!
